Train to Teach at Lordswood Girls’ School
To achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course must be completed. There are a number of options available for individuals to achieve Qualified Teacher Status and Lordswood Girls’ School has a strong tradition of involvement with Initial Teacher Training (ITT) with the following partner institutions:
Since 2013, Lordswood Girls’ School has worked in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton to deliver the School Direct programme. School Direct offers school-led teacher training in close collaboration with a university. For 2016, Lordswood Girls’ School, in partnership with the Oaks Collegiate are able to offer trainees an opportunity to complete their placements in a range of schools; from single sex to co-educational, from special schools to sixth form centres. Further information about our partner schools and the vacancies available in each can be found here.
The School Direct PGCE Tuition programme follows the University of Wolverhampton’s PGCE programme. Teaching is shared between the university and school. Trainees on this route are responsible for tuition fees and are entitled to bursaries and student loans.
Working with Wolverhampton University, we select and recruit the trainees that Lordswood Girls’ School and partner schools want to employ as teachers once they qualify. In this way we can shape training to suit our schools and students.
In addition to the School Direct programme, we regularly accommodate PGCE trainee teachers in the following subject areas:
Modern Foreign Languages
The training programme at Lordswood Girls’ School is led and co-ordinated by Assistant Headteacher, Karen Bufton and the school’s Senior Mentor, Charis Hart. They are supported by a team of qualified and committed assistant senior mentors and subject mentors.
