What will I be doing on the course? How will it be structured?

This course is a vocationally-related qualification that takes an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. The Cambridge Nationals in Business and Enterprise provides students with a broad foundation of knowledge required for further study in business including the different types of busi- ness, career planning (including recruitment) and the role of enterprise in business. The course is made up of three main parts:

Unit 1 – Introduction to business – externally examined – 25% of overall GCSE
This unit contains four topics: • Business ownership • Business objectives • Key functional areas of business • How external factors impact on businesses
Unit 2 – Planning for work – centre assessed tasks – 25% of overall GCSE
This unit contains 3 topics • Assess the requirements of job roles • To take part in the recruitment process as an applicant • Be able to plan for a career Learners should spend approximately 8-10 hours on the assessment tasks
Unit 3 – Setting up and running an enterprise – externally examined – 50% of overall GCSE
This unit contains five topics: • Select viable enterprise activities • Be able to plan enterprise activities • To implement enterprise activity plans • To contribute to the running of enterprise activities • To review the success of enterprise activities Learners will spend approximately 16–20 hours on the assessment tasks

What skills do I need to develop to be successful at this course?

To be successful in this subject you are required to meet deadlines as the course is heavily assessment based. You will be required to work and research at home on occasion and you will need to be able to work with a range of people, however working independently is a key element of achieving success for this qualification.

What could I use this qualification for?

By completing this course successfully you can continue to study Business Studies at Level 3, either A level or BTEC. In addition, you can apply for employment or an apprenticeship in various industries including retail and office work.
