Course Name : GCSE Psychology (AQA)

What is the qualification?

One full GCSE awarded at grades 9 – 1

What will I be doing on the course? How will it be structured?

Unit 1- Making Sense of Other People

This is a written paper of one hour thirty minutes. Topics include:

  • Memory
  • Non verbal communication
  • Development of personality
  • Stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination
  • Research methods

Unit 2- Understanding Other People

This is a written paper of one hour thirty minutes. Topics include:

  • Learning
  • Social Influence
  • Sex and gender
  • Aggression
  • Ethical considerations

How will it be structured?

The topics are taught in 6-8 week blocks and progress in each topic is assessed before starting the next one. Research methods is not taught as a ‘stand alone’ unit because the concepts are relevant throughout the other topics. There are a variety of experiments conducted by students to help them gain a deeper understanding of the nature of the research findings used to explain human behaviour.

What skills do I need to develop to be successful at this course?

You will need to be able to recall, select and communicate your knowledge and understanding of psychology and how psychology works. Also you will need to be able to apply skills, knowledge and understanding of psychology and how psychology works, as well as interpret, evaluate and analyse psychological data and practices.

What could I use this qualification for?

This qualification complements GCSE Science and students must be taking GCSE Science to undertake this course. It will also provide a smooth progression to A Level psychology and other A Level sciences.
